Hello chaps,
I know this is nothing to do with our forum, but so sad am I that when I notice some little detail I feel compelled to express it some way or it drives me slowly mad.
Basically am I the only person that noticed that in last week's "Ashes To Ashes" there was a mk4 Ford Escort in the background of one shot, even though these were not introduced until 1986 (although admittedly wearing a "W" reg plate).
Perhaps getting my 1981 Talbot Solara in the background in the next series is not such a daft idea if they are clearly so short of cars that they'd make such a gaff.
Feel better now having got that off my chest.

I was thinking the same thing about the Austin Maestro (although it was hardly going to keep me up at night twitching

) that drove past Caroline's front door (she opens the door when the taxi driver arrives and a Maestro can be seen passing by in the background). I thought they didn't come out until 1983 and the entry on
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austin_Maestro confirms it...
As 'this' 1981 is a figment of Alex's imagination it doesn't matter if it isn't accurate

I agree with what's above. If it's her mind's image of 1981 then it doesn't need to be accurate. That was what they said about the policing in Life On Mars - no police officers ever really acted that way* but Sam Tyler had seen it in films which meant that's how he imagined it.
* some police officers did act like that but it's thought that they were copying the films rather than the other way around...

I think the Escort was in the background at between 15 - 20 minutes into the programme.
It was when all four of the main characters were getting into Gene's Quattro that you could see it behind Alex wearing a "W" reg plate.
I'm sure you'll find it if you watch that part of the show again.

hi
its strange why they didn't go for a w plate XR3 or something.
there should be plenty of MK1 fiestas and Austin metro too.
my dad had a W plate Austin princes!. and i had a V plate mk2 escort in 1985

The only time a Delorean was driven on UK roads in 1981 was in Northern Ireland or around Norfolk.
Also the police did not carried guns or shoot them back in 1981 only in Northern Ireland, Funny that!
As mike said its only a TV programme.
