Well I hope I can get insurence, I will have to wait and see!
Is the driving age 17 or 18 ATM? When can you start learning?
I hope they dont put the age up, it will really **** me off!!!
Yeah, I will keep going at it and get my D, no matter what! Even if I have to live with my parents until im 40 to be able to afford the insurence!!!

I got my D at 19 and insured it when I was 21.
I had my father as a main driver, to be fair he did drive it a bit so it wasn't a fiddle, but it was actually relativly cheap, IIRC less than £400 with me as a named driver fully comp 3000miles per year.
I thought that was good, but now I'm 27 AON £225 unlimited mileage and agreed valuation! cool

If I have the knoledge/skills by the time I get mine i might get a project car when just insure it when I am done, by the time I do that I should be able to afford insurence.
Although, if I put my dad as the main driver when I am 17/18 will it help the price much?

It most likely would, but the hard bit will still be getting the quote in the first place due to your age.
It's difficult, but not impossible, as JamesRG has mentioned above. Thanks to another (then) young club member who pointed me in the right direction, I managed to get insured on my first D when I was 18. The premium was something like £350 which was a bargain really. That was on a limited mileage policy. I've since heard that my insurers won't accept any new policies for DeLoreans though? :?

I was 21 when I started phoning round for quotes and pretty much all companies I rang said sorry your too young. Its stupid really becuase you can legaly drive any car at 17. I found adrian flux would insure me, actualy for slightly less than my previous car which was lucky as they were the only ones i found that would insure under 25's :roll: As they do under 25's you might find they will insure a 17/18 year old, but would be stupidly expensive, then again all insurance for 17 year olds is. I remember my vw polo first car being well over a grand  so dread to think what a D would cost.... Phone up if you get a chance mate it would be interesting to know.

My insurance is with Adrian Flux and is £1300. I am 24 but in Northern Ireland which doesn't help either

Thanks for the info, I am doing a lot of school stuff and hope to have my own business (I am doing business and IT as my options in year 10) so if that goes well I will be able to afford it just fine, although starting the business at 17 is unlikely, unless I happen to get some huge idea that will make me rich, of course!
Anyway, as long as I am able to afford the expensive insurance I wont mind paying stupid prices for a few years if it means I can have a D! Also, I am sure my dad wont mind me putting him as the main driver, so it will be cheaper 
Now all I gotta worry about is getting about 15 grand by the time im 17, I guess...

You do NOT need a duel control vehicle to take your test and learning to drive in a Delorean would be a nightmare. My insurance is £25 a year with free road tax, disability sticker and free parking thrown in,

a couple of months ago, we sold a Corsa 1.5 D (non turbo) Merit 5dr (basic

I feel really old, when I think that when I was 17 and bought my first car in
1989 (when I had my provisional licence), my little ole Mini 850 cost the
princely sum of £200 to purchase, and £225 to insure (with my dad as
named driver).

Ive been working since I was 16. I now work doing maintenance engineering in an electronics company, but working on mainly mechanical equipment :wink: I saved hard to get the D.

I have a mate who once paid £4000 to insure an audi S3 that he bought on finance He soon got fed up being totaly skint and it went back to the finance company :roll: He was 19 at the time with 6 points on his licence for driving without care and attention. Some people eh!
